night ride home

for the first time in a while I had the feeling of riding fast.
I dont know if it was the extra wind blowing around or the cloak of night doing it
but it was awesome.
this is a somewhat recent picture of my bike. seatpost and seat clamp have since been upgraded

in other news:
I havent been to class in over two weeks.
and I dont feel bad about it at all which is the worst thing.
there are times when I wish I got up to do work at school, but never have I felt the need to attend lecture.
its going to be hard to break this habit. sleeping in is really nice but the time has come to change my ways.

I am not looking forward to retaking my math class.

as for another highlight I did meet my goals for the day and I have finished my questions for anatomy lecture and finished my homework for anatomy lab and started on the second half (the eye and ear were the focus of this weeks lab)

Bill Nye on the city of the future

So rad to see a scientist, someones whose profession it is to solve today's problems with tomorrows solutions, endorse bicycle use.

Working out

The body hold around 50,000 to 200,000 calories as fat. Enough energy for 200-400 hours of exercise.
Meaning the displeasure from abstaining from cake is far more temporary then the effort needed to "work" it off

Sunday, December 4

the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition conducted a survey that used a neat trick to partition the city's two-wheeled community. Half the questioning was conducted via the Internet or mail; the other half of the respondents were approached on the street. One notable result: 42 percent of the street respondents said they rode five days a week or more. Only a quarter of the remotely queried cyclists rode that much.
And the riders who pedal so much more accomplish it with far fewer resources: 40 percent of the street respondents earn less than $15,000 annually (65 percent earn below $35,000), and 95 percent of them own just a single bike.
Nearly half of those surveyed by Internet and mail reported earnings of more than $75,000. The household income of subscribers to this magazine is $112,000, and, on average, four bikes are parked in our garages. If you're a typical subscriber, you plan to spend at least $2,000 on your next bike, but a passionate 4 percent of you say you'll spend $6,000 or more.

Setbacks

Lame. I was totally pumped to go and ride my bike along with my fram out to the powdercoat shop today out in Spanish fork. So I set out for the bike collective to pick up my fork but no one was there! I even had my frame strapped to my back like a pro.
Just another setback I will have to deal with.

South fork bike ride

Went on a bike ride with Zac today up south fork canyon. I was worried about getting cold but things were actually great. The weather was cold enough that we were able to sustain a fast pace without generating alot of heat and thus did not sweat at all (practically speaking). Even though Zac beat me on the ascent (on a fixie nonetheless) I had a good time, I wish I made more of an effort to get out and ride more.
Afterwards we headed over to his place to get some of the parts for my bike project priced out, and it looks like things will be super legit when we get everything put together. I am really looking forward to this.

Bike update

Headed over to the Provo bicycle collective to get a bike I am working on cleaned up and disassembled before it heads off for some fresh powder coat. Still working on snagging some pics, but I will post em next time.
For the disassembly things went pretty smooth.  Had some snags with removing the crankset and bottom bracket but it was a cool experience to get some grease on my hands and get up close with some of the parts and tools.
Really looking forward to getting some replacement parts worded and seeing the powdercoat on it. I am thinking of getting it done in a nice cream color. While I don't know the history of the bike and how it ended up in Provo I do know that at one time it was registered at Harvard which is kinda cool. Zac had the great idea of stenciling "Harvard" up on the top tube which i think would be a great touch to add  to the bike once we get it all put together.

Bike Light

I want to do this project.
just need to find a vintage light housing...
